Hi folks,

Today I led 15 8th-graders from Florida on a 10-mile hike. The first
4 miles was on chestnut Top Trail, and it was very birdy. I missed a
lot, since I was busy and didn't have binoculars. But even with
that, I still got on a lot of birds, and got the kids on a lot as
well. Between the birds and the flowers, we all had sore necks!

Here is the list. an asterisk denotes first of season for me

Common Raven
Red Crossbills
white-breasted Nuthatches excavating a cavity
Downy Woodpecker excavating a cavity
Tree Swallows
Norhtern Rough-wined Swallows
American Redstart *
Ovenbird *
Kentucky Warbler *
Louisiana Waterthrush
Pine Warbler
Yellow-throated Warbler
Northern Parula
Black-throated Green Warbler
Black-and-white Warber
Tennessee Warbler?!? I didn't get a great look, but there were 3-4
birds that sure seemed to be Tennessees, or maybe Philadelphia
Vireos. I remember the call note, so when I listen to my cd, I might
get it. Very sharp "chuck" kinda loud.

Charlie
