Hi folks,

First of season sightings continue at Tremont (Blount County, Great
Smoky Mountains National Park).

Today I was with a group of 8th graders from Florida when I looked up
and saw a Broad-winged Hawk. It circled low enough that the kids
were able to get on the basic field marks without binoculars! I was
also happy when one of the kids pointed out a sound I'd told them to
listen for - Blue-gray Gnatcatcher!

We also found first of season Trout Lilly in bloom.

Butterflies included a medium-sized, very dark (Juvenals?) Skipper,
and 3 or more West Virginia Whites (Thanks to David Trently for
teaching me that one)

Later today Tracey, Allan and I walked the closed section of the
Foothills Parkway (also Blount County) where we had at least 4
different Gnatcatchers. We also had first of season Zebra
Swallowtail and Tiger Swallowtail. A medium size, red butterfly high
over head was likely an Admiral, but I'm not sure.

Charlie
