There were a lot of shorebirds at Ensley, still on the ground due to weather
and sorting through them was a kick. No Golden Egg but a few Golden-Plovers
all sporting just hints of their eventual coloration. Another addition bringing
the weekend "Wind Bird" total to 15, was a single basic plumaged Stilt
Sandpiper that took a lot of scanning to find among the distant Legs.
At TVA Lake, where there had been one Ring-billed Gull on Saturday there were
a hundred with birds falling in and flying out. In the mix were 7 Bonaparte's
Gulls mostly in breeding plumage and two sharp Caspian Terns.
Lincoln's Sparrows are in big time and especially enjoying the fresh green
patches of vetch before it blooms and is taken over by the hordes of Bobolink
heading this way. A couple of Vespers and lots of Chipping and Field Sparrows
were found along with a single White-crowned. Large numbers of Savannah
Sparrows
have to be combed through just in case there is something exceptional hiding
among them. Swamp Sparrows are really getting it on when it comes to rich
coloration and just a few White-throated have full breeding dress while others
look quite frumpy and disheveled yet.
Good Birding!!!
