Shelby Co. TN
The storms rolled across Shelby Co. and the birds set down. At Ensley
Bottoms, I had 13 species of shorebirds (no Golden-Plovers?) with a super total
of
over 1200 birds. A nice mix with a few goodies: Semipalmated Plover - 1,
Killdeer, Black-necked Stilt - 5, Greater Yellowlegs - 3, Lesser Yellowlegs -
181,
Solitary Sandpiper - 62, UPLAND SANDPIPER - 3, Western Sandpiper - 1, Least
Sandpiper - 172, Pectoral Sandpiper - 933, Dunlin - 2, Long-billed Dowitcher -
1,
Wilson's Snipe - 22. A few birds trickled in all morning.
Thirteen species of waterfowl were seen in various pools, ponds and lakes
with a few late divers, Ruddy and a single Red-breasted Merganser on Coro Lake,
this hen merg is most likely injured. Forster's Terns were seen on the river
and at Robco Lake. Ring-necked, Hooded Merg and Lesser Scaup were scattered and
Canada Geese were leading goslings around.
Other good finds were: 2 Eastern Kingbirds, Cattle Egrets, 3 Snowy Egrets,
Green Heron and a female Anhinga at Mud Lake. A lot of species like Chimney
Swifts and swallows that had only been present in ones and twos were seen in
high
numbers. Pied-billed Grebes are busy courting and nest
building...............and the Memphis Bald Eagle still sets eggs.
Good Birding!!!
