I was out at one of my field sites this morning on Ash Log Mountain in the
Cumberland Mountains and heard the first golden-winged warbler of the year!
He was singing in an area where there was a territory last year, but was not
being very incessant about it...probably b/c there was no other male there to
compete with him. I wonder if he is a transient or here to stay.
We also heard the following:
red-eyed vireo
black and white warbler
black-throated green warbler
blue-gray gnatcatcher
and the regular residents....
also a yellow-bellied sapsucker - does anyone know if this species will breed
in the Cumberlands?? I did not notice any last year during the breeding
season so I am guessing not.
I can't believe a GWWA is here already!!
