Mourning Dove: Wednesday, May 31, I flushed up two Mourning Doves from the
foundation of my house. There was a young dove there, full-sized, nicely
feathered with just a bit of down, but no visible long tail feathers or
primaries. We stayed away from the front of the house after that, checked
frequently thru a nearby window, watched the young bird mature and grow flight
feathers. One adult was with the young bird most of the time thru the last
check yesterday evening, Tuesday, April 6, one week. This morning they were
gone. There was no evidence of violence. I climbed the one nearby tree, White
Pine, and found a minimal nest about 12 feet up.
Eurasian Collared-Dove: 2, feeding with Mourning Doves, Common Grackles and
House Sparrows at the Chattanooga Zoo.
