Dear Wallace,
My name is Don Hendershot. I live in Waynesville, NC. As an avid birder and
an outdoor columnist I lurk on the Carolina and Tennessee listservs.
I thought if I passed this message to you, you might be able to relay it to
interested parties in E. TN.
I suspect these birds are part of the Operation Migration group that was led
southward last winter by ultralights - but a group of about 8 whoopers with
bands and transmitters were seen on the Little Tennessee, this afternoon
(4/1) about 8 miles north of Franklin, NC off Hwy. 28.
I suspect that with the local weather pattern they may stay down through
tomorrow. This front should pass by about midday tomorrow.
I know a lot of E. TN birders follow the annual Hiwassee crane migration and
thought some might be interested.
Ciao,
Don Hendershot
Waynesville, NC
