TN-Birders and Non-subscribers to the list:

Viewing the mailing list of TN-Birds via the Freelist access website has
been closed to all persons.  This became effective Tuesday, April 8.

This in no way prevents those of you who set your various list mail "flag"
options from continuing to have access to that service.  However, you will
no longer be able to access the list of subscribers.

In the past, you were able to open the list from the Freelist access website
and see the addresses of all subscribers who had not elected to be "hidden"
from public view.  That included all but two or three subscribers who were
hidden from view.

This open list may have been the pathway by which some automated virus
propogation programs attempted to reach the TN-Birds list.

Likewise,  it is a possible point of entry by automated software which
"mines" the internet seeking large list of e-mail addresses for the purpose
of generating addresses to add to junk mailing list.

All of this is a further security measure to assure your enjoyment of
TN-Birds Net, some further protection from viruses, and to assure that the
entire mailing list is not available to junk mailers.
