Richard and I were there at Radnor this morning too. We took the South Cove
Trail, for the wild flower walk with two Rangers, and two Friends of Radnor.
In the woods there were Hairy, Downey and Red Bellied Woodpeckers all seen
and heard . Several places we heard and saw Blue gray Gnatcatchers, and
Titmice. Best by far was the sighting of a Barred Owl who sat about 40 feet
away across a valley looking at us as if we were insignificant in the scheme
of things.
Birds seen and or heard were: Barn Swallow, Belted Kingfisher, Eastern
Phoebe, Carolina Chickadee, Blue Jay, Carolina Wren, Eastern Bluebird,
American Robin, Cardinal, White Throated Sparrow, Canada Goose, and Purple
Martin.
Of course, all these were off the record because officially we were on a
'wildflower' walk.
In case you like wild flowers, currently blooming is: Dwarf Larkspur, Purple
Phacelia, Wood Poppy, Spring Beauty, Common Blue Violet, Yellow Violet,
Slender Toothwort, Cut-leaf Toothwort, Dutchman's Britches, Pussy toes,
Meadow Parsnip, Jack in the pulpit, Rue Anemone, Wood Anemone, and of
course Dog Wood Trees.
Also seen, but not yet blooming: Bear's-foot Sunflower, and May-Apple.
See you Wednesday, NTOS!
