Monday and Tuesday (4/8 & 4/9) there were lots of BLACK AND WHITE WARBLERS
singing at Blue Blazes Trail, Moccasin Bend (Hamilton Co), but yesterday
(4/10) I didn't hear any. Apparently they took advantage of the beautiful
weather and headed north. The HERMIT THRUSH and WHITE-THROATED SPARROWs
I've been seeing all winter have apparently headed that way too because I
haven't seen them at all lately. Also Monday and Tuesday, though not
yesterday, I heard BELTED KINGFISHER (a favorite of mine) along the river.
Yesterday I saw my first WHITE-EYED VIREO at Blue Blazes (actually I saw at
least three individuals, and heard at least one more). There were many
BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERs and the TOWHEEs have been very vocal. At the end of
my walk I ran into Bill Haley, he pointed out the RED-SHOULDERED HAWK nest
to me. I had been looking for it over the months, but it was not at all in
the area I had anticipated (it was along the road rather than in the
forested area near the field I had been looking in). He noted that he had
seen/heard PRAIRIE WARBLER and YELLOW BREASTED CHAT.
