Spent the day birding along the Great River Road in
Dyer County and had several spring arrivals -
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, 3-4 White-eyed Vireos,
Black-and-white Warbler, and a very unexpected early
Kentucky Warbler in a cane thicket near the Obion
River. The previous early record for this species that
I could find was 25 March 1954 in Shelby County.
Also had an Orange-crowned Warbler, lots of DC
Cormorants headed north, and several displaying
Red-shouldered Hawks.
The waters along the MS River levee were rising
quickly with many fileds on the east side of the levee
already under water. Hopefully some of this water will
still be around when the big numbers of shorebirds
start moving in a few weeks.
Good birding,
Mark Greene
Trenton, TN
Gibson County
