Today I attended the KTOS outing to Fort Loudoun State Historical Area
and environs. There were 5 members braving the cold. Highlights at the
park included a Hermit Thrush out in the open, a FOS Blue-Headed
Vireo, Red-Breasted Nuthatches, a Bald Eagle, Horned Grebes, and
Common Loons, which we actually heard call.

Our next stop was the Toqua boat landing, just down Citico Rd. We saw
another Common Loon there along with 1 male and 2 female Buffleheads,
1 Killdeer, and 2 Snipe. We had fantastic views of 2 Hermit Thrushes.
A Tree Swallow flew over the lake just as we were leaving.

Janet McKnight was then kind enough to invite us to her home, Wood
Thrush Ridge, where we watched her feeders and saw Red-Breasted
Nuthatches, Chipping Sparrows, and a Pine Warbler. I particularly
enjoyed seeing 8 chipping sparrows at once on her platform feeder.
