Greene County (mostly back roads in the western portion; a few other sites in
and around Greeneville)
I was out for about five hours this morning and afternoon. Wind, rain, and
snow presented problems at times, but birding was good. A partial list
includes:
Ross's Goose (white phase, Jim Kirk Rd. 0.2 mile from Mohawk Creek Rd.)
Wood Duck (9--7, Sapp Rd.; 2, Green Rd.)
Gadwall (4, Wal-Mart Distribution Center)
Blue-winged Teal (Sapp Rd.)
Northern Shoveler (3, Gravel Woods Rd.)
Green-winged Teal (20, Gravel Woods Rd.)
Ring-necked Duck (10, Gravel Woods Rd.)
Hooded Merganser (2, Sapp Rd.)
Wild Turkey (3, Bridge Burners Blvd.)
Northern Bobwhite (7, Sapp Rd.)
Northern Harrier (Jim Kirk Rd.)
Pectoral Sandpiper (5, Toby Rd.; strange to see them feeding in snow)
Wilson's Snipe (4)
Tree Swallow (15, Gravel Woods Rd.)
American Pipit (2, Green Rd.)
American Robin (729)
Chipping Sparrow (Jim Kirk Rd.)
Vesper Sparrow (Murray Bridge Rd.)
Savannah Sparrow (7, Murray Bridge Rd.)
White-crowned Sparrow (Jim Kirk Rd.)
Dark-eyed Junco (20, Glades Rd.)
Rusty Blackbird (50, Green Rd., etc.)
Purple Finch (Greeneville).
