[TN-Bird] Chickamauga Lake Birds- Sandhill Cranes, Pectoral Sandpiper, Lesser Yellowlegs

I birded Chickamauga Lake/Hiwassee River in McMinn, Bradley, and Meigs
Counties, TN on March 15, 2007 from 10:03 am to 3:45 pm. Lake elevation was
675.99 ft at noon which is exposes a great amount of mudflats. Below is
only a select list of birds seen at each stop.
South Mouse Creek embayment:
1. Killdeer- 5
2. Wilson Snipe- 8
Candies Creek embayment:
1. Killdeer- 34
2. Green-winged Teal- 16
3. Gadwall- 3
Sugar Creek embayment:
1. Killdeer- 7
2. Gadwall- 6
3. Mallard- 4
Gunstocker Creek embayment:
1. Killdeer- 23
2. Wilson Snipe- 20
3. Gadwall- 31
4. Northern Shoveler- 1
Hiwassee Refuge Wildlife Observation Area:
1. Sandhill Cranes- 9
2. Killdeer- 24
3. Pectoral Sandpiper- 1
4. Lesser Yellowlegs- 1
5. Green-winged Teal- 35
6. Mallard- 2
Cherokee Removal Memorial Park
1. Osprey- 2 standing on a nesting platform
The Bald Eagle nest in Meigs County had one nestling and two adults perched
below the nest. This bird should fledge any day now.
