Sorry about the last posting--it was mt first and I didn't switch to plain
text. I don't recieve or send mail often so i'm just now re-posting. Last
Sun-Mar 4 I went to Kyker Bottoms (Blount Co). On the way I stopped at the UT
pLant science facility on Alcoa Hwy.
birds at UT facility (1:30-2pm):
Pectoral Sandpiper - 1 (life-bird)
Killdeer - 7
Canada Geese - 50
Tree Swallow - 1 (FOS)
Turkey Vulture - 1
Red-Tailed Hawk - 3
Song sparrow - 1
Red-Bellied WP - 1
Amer. Crow - several
Eur. Starling - several
at Kyker Bottoms (2:30-6:30pm):
Killdeer - 1
Great Blue Heron - 2
Amer. Coot - 3
N. Shoveler - 1 m
Ring-Necked Duck - 10
Gadwall - 9 (life-bird)
Green-Winged Teal - 12 (life-bird)
Canada Goose - several at pulloff after storage shed
Amer. Kestrel - 1 m
Red-Tailed Hawk - 1
N. Harrier - 1 m (1st m seen)
Tree Swallow - 2
Song Sparrow - several
White-Throated Sparrow - 1
Red-Winged Blackbird - several
E. Bluebird - 3
N. Cardinal - several
N. Mockingbird - 1
T. Titmouse - 1
Blue Jay - 4
Red-Bellied WP - 1
Pileated WP - 1
I also thought I saw 2 Purple Martin (life-bird) and a Rough-Winged Swallow but
i'm not poitive. The "Martins" flew over and off in the distance w/ no flashes
of white like a Tree Swallow. I did see a swallow w/ brownish wash on sides of
breast but this seems pretty early for Rough-Winged.
