[TN-Bird] Whooping Crane in Knoxville
- From: David Trently <dtrently@xxxxxxx>

Marcia Davis received a call about a Whooper at Looney Island in Knoxville.
She checked it out and it is indeed a WHOOPING CRANE, complete with bands and
radio antennae.
She wasn't able to determine the color bands on the legs and requests someone
with a good spotting scope go there to try to id the bird.
LOCATION:
Looney Island is the island in the Tennessee River which is seen on the right
as you head south on route 129 (Alcoa Highway) just past UT Hospital - the
place where there are many Great Blue Heron nests.
However, the place to go to see this bird is Sequoyah Hills Park off Cherokee
Boulevard. on the other side of the river.
This park can be accessed via US 70 (Kingston Pike). To see the crane, you
need to go to the point where there is a boat ramp and you can see the Osprey
nest platform on the southwest point of Looney Island. Scan in that area for
the big white bird!
