[TN-Bird] Strange Red Tailed Hawk behavior and finch behavior

When I got to Rose's Pond today they were tilling so no ducks were present I
did see 5 Red Tailed Hawks and 2 kestrels, 30 Brown Headed Cowbirds (#49),
and one Great horned owl on the telephone wire (#50). The Red Tails were
hovers over the tilled part of the field and every once in a wile one would
drop and walk around on the ground like a crow before taking off again. I
have never seen Red Tails walk on the ground before. Is this normal?
And one more thing before I call it quits:-), this winter at my feeders in
Ethridge I had up to 150 Gold Finches and 17 Purple Finches at one time. One
day it was raining and they were all down on the ground feeding in the muck.
Then there was a downpour and all the bird grabbed onto the side of the tree
on the down wind side of the trees and my house. They were hanging onto them
like swallows or swifts. Is this normal? Have any of you seen this before? A
friend of mine who is a really experienced birder said he had never hear of
such behavior before. But I am sure someone else has seen this. Well I have
typed way more then I planed too so goodbye for now.
