[TN-Bird] Rufous Hummingbird Day 107

Willie could author one of those self-help books and call it, "From
Awful to Awesome in 10 Days". Just a few days ago he did look awful as
he was molting but that is finished now and he is just spectacular once
again. His gorget looks black in the shade, changes to the brightest
copper as light hits it, then at another angle becomes a fluorescent
orange/red. This morning he appeared at 5:41 and the gusty wind made it
so difficult for him to eat at the tethered feeder that he made 13 trips
in 8 minutes. But for us the benefit was to be able to view that throat
from many directions in the light of the heat lamp and it is just
magnificent. In his final visits to the feeder yesterday afternoon, it
almost seemed as if he was reproving me for saying he looked terrible a
few days ago. I was sitting by the kitchen storm door and he came to
the wrought iron butterfly, sat there several times and looked directly
at me and flashed that throat as if to say, "look at me now and eat
those words". I hope you have something as beautiful as Willie to
brighten your life today.
