[TN-Bird] Rufous Hummingbird Day 106

It is getting harder to beat Willie to the deck every morning. I rushed
to get the feeder out at 5:35 and he showed up at 5:38. Just as he
started to feed a loud truck roared by and the wind shook his feeder so
he headed back to his bush and waited a couple of minutes to return. He
finally settled down and ate for an extended period at 5:54. I've
noticed over the past few days that he seems to be coming in to the
feeder from a different direction than he has all winter. He is flying
in from the South where the nursery is located.
As he sat on the perch I noticed a Turkey vulture in the background and
thought about the size difference of these two and yet realized that
they are both made to fly and move with such great ease. God certainly
did make some wonderful creations, especially in the bird world.
The Song sparrow insisted on singing from Willie's bare bush and a
Cardinal
was perched in the evergreen bush . Willie made a run at the Cardinal
and then went back to feed for a few more moments. I guess he is
practicing his "bullying" techniques which he hasn't needed much this
winter.
Willie posed for more photos yesterday and seemed to enjoy showing off
his newly acquired gorget. It did glisten in the sunlight. He is going
to make a handsome catch for some lucky female this Spring.
