Laurie and I visited Seven Islands WMA in east Knox County yesterday. It was a
beautiful day for a walk. The most enjoyable birds of the day were 3 bald
eagles. Much of the area that has been planted in native grasses has been
burned. The folks who did the burn did an impressive job with control. The
fire had come just to the edge of the path on both sides, but the paths
remained green.
The birds for the day were:
Canada Goose
Wild Turkey(on Midway Rd near Seven Islands)
Double-crested Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Black Vulture
Turkey Vulture
Bald Eagle
Northern Harrier
Accipiter Species(too fast for me)
Red-tailed Hawk
Falcon Species (way up high)
Ring-billed Gull
Morning Dove
Belted Kingfisher
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Downy Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Pileated Woodpecker
Eastern Phoebe
Blue Jay
American Crow
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
Carolina Wren
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Eastern Bluebird(entering martin gourds with nesting material)
American Robin
Northern Mocking Bird
European Starling
Yellow-rumped Warbler(best numbers we have seen all winter)
Palm Warbler
Eastern Towhee
Field Sparrow
Song Sparrow
Swamp Sparrow
White-throated Sparrow
White-Crowned Sparrow
Northern Cardinal
Red-winged Blackbird
Eastern Meadowlark
Brown-head Cowbird
House Finch

Noticeably absent were American goldfinch, logerhead shrike, and northern
bobwhite.
