[TN-Bird] Rufous Hummingbird Day 100

When you've been doing something the same way for 100 days I suppose
there is no desire to change. So on his centennial day with us, Willie
came to the feeder at 5:51 a.m., took his usual quick stab at the port
to confirm the sugar water was still there, and dived into his cedar
bush. He then came 3 more times in the first 5 minutes with each drink
getting longer as he sat at the feeder port. His arrival times vary
with the approaching daylight as he almost always comes as soon as one
can distinguish shapes and forms of the bushes in the yard. He sure has
answered in the affirmative the question that caused us to name him on
the 29th day. Since the #1 thought each day for us as we stared into
the early morning darkness was "WILL HE come today", we decided to call
him Willie.
His gorget molt is almost complete now and we can see the beautiful red
glowing as he comes into the spot/heat light. The green on his head and
back is not solid yet but is covering a rather extensive area all the
way down past where the wings attach. Maybe by 200 days (wishful
thinking) we'll be able to see the finished Willie and look forward even
more to his first visit each morning and the subsequent appearances each
day. 100 days is more than we ever imagined he'd be with us but as the
Bible says: "the eye is never satisfied with seeing" and that is
certainly true with a beautiful bird like Willie.
