[TN-Bird] Rufous Hummingbird Day 96

Willie should be the poster boy for the U.S. Postal Service. Neither
rain nor sleet nor snow nor darkness of night keeps him from his
appointment with the sugar water feeder each morning. We have
temperatures in the mid-20's today, horizontal snow, and so much wind I
had to tie down the feeder, but Willie still came for a drink at 5:56
a.m. and then for three more drinks within the next eight minutes. He's
having a difficult time just stopping and hanging on as the wind is so
strong and yard birds are bothering him as they too seek shelter in his
cedar bush sitting place. Once he moved to the bare bush after eating
but that was too exposed, so he is contending with what he must surely
view as uninvited intruders into his domain.
But he is so resplendent as he glows in the illumination of the heat
lamp with the snow in the background. His molting is more evident each
day and we are now so hopeful he will stay until we see him in his next
stage of gorgeousness. A couple from Maryville came to see him
yesterday and he put on quite a show for them as he sat and ate numerous
times so they had excellent views. And they added to the consensus that
Willie is the most beautiful male Rufous Hummingbird ever seen in this
area.
