[TN-Bird] Sharpie

At around 4:00 PM yesterday, a sharp-shinned hawk gave several "soars" over
my deck full of feeding birds which immediately became a deck empty of
feeding birds! I believe that is the first sharpie I have seen on this
property in the 12 years I have lived here. At least, I never put it on my
"yard list." Have had lots of Coopers in that time.
Something, probably a neighbor's pet or a feral cat, took out one of my sweet
little juncos. I found a clump and scattering of slate-gray feathers on the
concrete at the foot of my deck stairs. I must admit that finding those
feathers brought a tear to my eye. I wish my little juncos stayed at my
house all year.
While I was away recently, a male cardinal flew into a section of window pane
on my French doors and left a few bright red and black face feathers which
stuck there presumably with liquid exuded from the bird. As I did not find
him laid out prone on the deck, he must have either survived or something got
him before I came home. I still have seven male and seven female cardinals
feeding here, so I assume he survived unless I had an "intruding" male. The
feathers remain on the window pane. You'd think that all the sectioning on
French doors would keep the birds away. Thought: should I be calling them
"French" doors any more?
Cheers and prayers for great birding,
Dee Thompson
