[TN-Bird] Cliff-nesting Great Horned Owl

My wife and I checked out a site on Riverport Road in Kingsport this morning
where we have consistently heard Great Horned Owls calling. There is a bluff
overlooking the bottomlands along the South Fork Holston River in which large
cavities have eroded away. Sure enough there was mamma sitting in one of the
cavities surveying her domain. We first found owls nesting at this site
sometime in the late 70's and I don't remember ever checking the site at this
time of year without finding the owls nesting there. The nest is quite far
away requiring a scope to get a good look and there is no way to get any
closer. It's so dark today I couldn't see if there were chicks with her or
not. Best time to view this nest is early to mid-morning when the sun in
shining on the face of the bluff. I'll go back later today and get some better
instructions on the exact location in case anyone wants to go out for a look.
Also remember finding a similar nest once on a bluff below Wilbur Dam in Carter
County, TN.
