Hi David, and others,

I don't like the idea of spreading false information, particularly on
such a topic as WNV, which has caused much undue panic among people
(presumably such as these) who are not well informed.

WNV has recieved far more publicity, attention and effort than it
warrants. It has killed a handful of people, most of whom were
already immunocompromised, in an area with many environmental
problems that are directly related to human health. Yet there have
been many thousands (millions?) of dollars spent on it that could
have gone to something far more dangerous to people - pick a disease,
they all kill more people than this.

And the environmental damage done in the name of "protecting" people
from this and other "fad" diseases is pretty serious: ponds drained,
increased used of pesticides, birds killed for research, or even just
because they were "carrier species."

No, the only ways to handle problems like this are education and/or
legal enforcement. I've contacted TWRA's dispatch number, the people
there say they will have an enforcement person call me, and I'll let
him or her handle it from there. And I'll continue to look at the
property in question (from a public area!) when I bird Kyker.

Now I want to see some more live birds!!! going to Florida with
friends who are also on this list - wish us luck.

Charlie
