[tn-bird] holly berries

On Saturday, my North Knoxville (Oakwood) neighborhood hosted a flock of
about 1,000 cedar waxwings. They roosted in the trees throughout the day
and may have been eating hackberries from a neighbor's tree. On Sunday,
there were smaller flocks (10-30) here and there, and then this morning
they and the robins decided that it was time to harvest the holly berries
from the tree outside my window.

All morning long there was a constant flux of birds to and from the tree.
It was mostly robins, around 100, but also cedar waxwings, though only a
small portion of the 1,000 that were here Saturday. This was very
stimulating for my (indoor) cat, especially the 4 or 5 times a bird
bounced off a window. By about 11am, the activity ceased. Having just
gone outside for an inspection, I know why. There is not a berry left on
the tree! The same is almost true for the birds. I see a single robin in
a neighbor's white oak.
