KY Lake areas of Henry Co
(Pace Point, Britton Ford, Paris Landing)
An abbreviated trip to KY Lake didn't produce much today, but conditions were
atrocious, so I don't think it means much. My trip was cut short when I got
called in to work tonight, so I only glanced at Britton Ford and Paris Landing.

The Lake is up considerably after the torrential rain we got with the strong
storms that came through Tuesday night. It doesn't look like it will be
dropping much over the next few days, so loafing spots for gulls will be hard
to come by. I was afraid the road into Pace Point would be blocked by downed
trees, but that wasn't a problem. There was a steady 25-30 mph wind howling
today, so it was near impossible to scan out from Rocky or Pace Point, my
tripod almost blew over at one point. There were numerous loons bobbing around,
and lots of ducks flying around, so plenty of birds to look at under better
conditions.

The only birds of any note were a nice adult (or older sub-adult) Golden Eagle
I spent about 20 minutes watching at the usual location of the big bay where
the observation overlook is now. It circled around the same area before finally
sailing off out of sight. I had hoped it would come a little closer, but I got
some marginal photos, good for ID points anyway.

Britton Ford was covered with waterfowl, but I didn't have time to do much with
them. Several Greater White-fronted Geese were in the fields with a few Canada,
but I didn't see any Snow or Ross's, or hoped for Cackling Geese.

I cruised by Paris Landing, hoping there would still be some island exposed,
but it is completely covered, with waves breaking over the top of it. Looked
like good numbers of waterfowl in this area as well.

If anyone gets in the area early on Friday, I will probably be in the Britton
Ford/Paris Landing area that afternoon, after 1:00 or so. My cell # is 731
676-0889 (service isn't great up there though), if anybody wants to meet up or
see if there might be something around.

I have posted a couple of shots of the Golden and White-fronts starting here:

Hope to see some of you at KY Lake this weekend!
