[TN-Bird] To feed or not to feed

Fellow tn-birders---As of today I have decided to discontinue ( I think)
feeding birds. For the past few years I have had one if not two Sharp Shinned
Hawks swooping in and picking off two or three birds (or who knows how many). a
day by scaring the wits out of the birds until they fly into the windows and
fall to the ground I know people say that hawks have to eat too, but is
providing a banquet for them the natural way to go? I have had this going on
for at least five years, watching the population of feeder birds drop.
Cardinals and White throated-sp. seems to be high on the menu. I have
considered feeding by spreading seed among dead weeds surrounding the yard.
But how do I manage the suet?
I welcome any opinions on this subject. (I can hear-surely not just before the
GBBC?)
Thanks,
Robbie Hassler
