Yes, they're starting to tune up in my neck of the woods, too, proving that
daylength is more critical than temperature, I guess. The Cardinals
typically start singing in late January, and this year was no different. The
Carolina Chickadees and Tufted Titmice have been singing since around Jan
10, and today I heard the first singing Eastern Towhee of the season.
There's a Red-bellied Woodpecker churring and making obvious territorial
vocalizations on a big dead post oak at the nursery where I work.
I'm grateful for any sign of spring when the windchill is as biting as it
was today!
