Hi folks,

When I went to bed at 1:35 am it was still raining here in south
Blount County. At 5:30 when Allan demanded my attention, I looked
out the window to see it was snowing, but there was not yet any
unmelted on the ground. At 8:30 when I finally got up for real, we
had about 1/2 inch on the ground.

Our feeders are hopping! A lone Pine Siskin is the big highlight so
far. A Brown Cowbird is also the first of the season here.

Others include:

American Goldfinch 30 or more
American Robins: a handful
Red-Bellied Woodpecker: a pair
Northern Cardinal: a dozen or so at a time
American Crows: a few overhead
Purple Finches: 6 or 7
House Finches: 6 or 7
Carolina Wrens: the pair that live under the carport
Carolina Chickadees: 4 or 5
Tufted Titmice: 2
White-throated Sparrows: 6 or 7
Song Sparrows: 2 or 3
Eastern Towhees: 4
Northern Mockingbird: 1
Blue Jays: 3 or 4
Mourning Doves: up to 18 at a time
European Starlings: a flock over head several times, but not on the
ground yet.

Yesterday we also had several Cedar Waxwings. I hope they come back
today - so nice to see in snow!

Good winter birding to all!
