[TN-Bird] Short-eared Owls & Northern Harriers

We made the trip to Nine Mile Road Tuesday afternoon and, along with four other
birders, had a spectacular show of the four Short-eared Owls being harassed by
three Northern Harriers from about 5:15 p.m. until nearly dark. At one point
all the owls were in one tree within easy viewing distance and we had great
looks at these gorgeous birds. But the harriers were determined to have the
field for themselves and finally drove the owls across the road. An Eastern
Screech and Great Horned Owl calling from a distance behind us provided
background music for the show.
A note about finding this road. Our logic made us think Nine Mile Road would
be nine miles from Crossville but it is actually about 20 miles south on Route
127. It's definitely worth the drive, however, to be have such a close-up view
of these lovely creatures.
