Hi folks,

Today I was on the field at Tremont with a group of 5th graders from
Blount County when it began to snow just a tiny little bit. I am not
sure if that is related to my observation or not...

All at once, I saw at least 100 passerines fly down off of a ridge
top to the bottom of the valley. The majority went unidentified, but
I was able to ID both Black-capped and Carolina Chickadee,
Golden-crowned Kinglet, Tufted Titmouse and Dark-eyed Junco. I
suspect there were others.

Most came down from very high up, and descended rapidly. Most were
calling vociferously. They came down near the top of the trees
immediately next to the Middle Prong of the Little River.

By the time my obligations to the kids were over, the birds had
dispersed, so I could not make better observations.

Charlie
