On Saturday, Feb 3 2006, Tom McNeil, JT McNeil, and myself checked out the
birds on Middlebrook lake. In steady sleet we saw three species of
Merganser - Common Merganser, Red-breasted Mergansers 2, and Hooded
Mergansers 150+. We also saw a huge population of mainly Ring-billed gulls
(we didn't look at each one real close). The gulls were on the center of
Middlebrook Lake and took flight soon as we pulled up. -- Sullivan County,
TN.
We then drove to Clear Creek Lake (in Virginia - Wallace Community)where we
saw another 150+ Hooded Mergansers, a Belted Kingfisher, Great Blue Heron,
White-fronted Geese 3, and a single Ross' Goose. The White-fronted Geese
and Ross' Goose was in a small flock of Canada Geese and have been in this
part of Bristol, VA for a couple of months now. -- Washington County, VA.
