[TN-Bird] Rufous Hummingbird Day 79
- From: eyesew@xxxxxxxxx (Virginia Curtis)

I was really surprised when Willie appeared at 6:15 a.m. today. He ate
so often and so long yesterday that I was convinced he was preparing
either to mate or move. And since there are no other hummers around, my
conclusion was he was getting all that extra energy to fly last night.
So I psyched myself that he would not make his usual "check-in" approach
early this morning but would be somewhere over the Mississippi River by
now. But he is still here and my heart was so glad to see him even
though it brought "I told you so" from Virginia.
We decided yesterday afternoon that he indeed loves the spotlight. It
was so warm - 60 degrees - that we turned the heat lamp off in
mid-morning. At 5:04 p.m. we assumed he was finished eating for the day
as he had lowered the sugar water level in the feeder by a record
amount. But we turned on the lamp and he appeared almost immediately
and then returned again at 5:20 p.m. We need to find this little guy a
top hat and a cane.
