[TN-Bird] Rufous Hummingbird Day 76
- From: eyesew@xxxxxxxxx (Virginia Curtis)

Willie had the "willies" this morning (for you youngsters, that's an old
term that means "nervous"). The temperature change slated for today as
we go from the mid-50's this morning to the mid-20's tomorrow morning
has brought heavy fog. It blowing under the feeder light, along with
passing cars, caused Willie to make four trips to the feeder before
finally eating on the fourth one. On his first trip he must have
misjudged the distance in the fog as he actually crashed into the feeder
- would that be called a Willie Wreck?
Apparently yelling at the Sharp-shinned Hawk on Monday must have had an
effect since he didn't show up yesterday and I hope he retains that
memory. As a result of the warm weather and fewer birds at the feeders
and the hawk hiatus, Willie had a calm day of regular feeding times.
He'll probably feed more frequently this afternoon as he'll be aware of
the colder nights that are coming. He's still worth making a trip to
see. Our son, who thinks his parents are a bit bird demented, came by
on Sunday and saw Willie for the first time. And like all others who
have seen this radiant rufous, the word "beautiful" came from mind to
mouth.
