[TN-Bird] Winchester Whoopers relocated
- From: Jerry Ingles <jeingles@xxxxxxxxxxx>

The three Whooping cranes were feeding yesterday morning and noon and today
at noon at a pond almost exactly 1 mile southeast of the Garret lane site
where they were last seen on Jan. 26.
The present site is a pond just west of the National Guard armory on Wilton
Circle west of Winchester. From U.S. 64, take the Hwy. 16 exit north,
cross old 64 (you will then be on Joyce Lane) and turn right at the four
way stop. On the corner on your right is a warehouse while the country
health department is on your left. You will then pass the Southern Middle
Tennessee Pavillion, then an underground structure that currently serves as
the Juvenile Court facility, then the National Guard Armory. Beyond you on
the right is the Sheriff's department and the county jail.
Look to you left down the hill just past the armory. If the brilliantly
white cranes are present they will be obvious.
Yesterday, the pond also held 10 Sandhills, 10-12 wigeon and 4 shovellers.
The three sites at which the whoopers have been reported are bounded on
the south by Hwy 64 and on the north by Hwy 50, and all are within 5 mi of
downtown Winchester.
