During the last month, Carol and I have noticed an increase in Purple Finches 
visiting our feeders. Initially, only two or three purple finches came to 
feed but over the weekend we had nearly twenty equally paired feeding. While 
most 
enjoyed the mix of black sunflower and safflower seeds on the platform feeder 
or ground, some were noted feeding from the tubular feeders with the house 
finches.

A brief trip to Boone Dam offered the typical wintry mix of yellow rumps and 
flocking robins. However, a yellow bellied sapsucker and red breasted 
merganser added highlites to our blustery trip.
