[TN-Bird] about male and female Purple Finches

TN-Birders:
I am sorry for having spelled Charlie Muise's last name as Muse in that last
posting on the Sharp-shinned Hawk. That was a goof up on my part. It was not
being cute at all. Forgive me for that error.
In regards to his Purple Finches where he called the purple ones males and the
brown ones females. It should be noted that you can't determine the sexes
among the brown Purple Finches you see at your feeders.
The brown versions of Purple Finch are *not* necessarily
female. Males don't get that beautiful raspberry wash until they are
mature.
So the brown Purple Finches may be either young males, young females or adult
females. You have to capture and hold them in your hand to check the plummage
to be rather sure. The pretty red or purple ones are adult males.
