Today a dark morph adult Rough-legged Hawk was observed one mile south the
intersection of Great River Road and Highway 79 in Lake County by Nancy Moore
and myself. It flew up and down the area for about ten minutes and it was easy
to observe.
A number of groups of Snow Geese were also seen in Lake County just north of
the prison and west along Highway 78 to just south of Black Bayou. During the
last week, large flocks of these birds (up to 150,000) have been observed in
the area. They move regulary from Long Point, Black Bayou around Cates Landing
and across the river into New Madrid and Pemiscot Counties in Missouri.

Last Wednesday there was a very large flock just east of the road at Cates
Landing that was estimated at 150,000 by some observers but when I flew over
the area a couple of hours later they were gone.

Today, the Bald Eagles were much more apparent than they have been. Seven were
seen in the Air Park area, 6 in Black Bayou and southwest to Cates and three in
Dyer County.

Also, late this afternoon I had 3 Short-eared Owls just off Highway 78 on 79.
