[TN-Bird] Re: Purple Finches nonsense

Hi folks and Charlie Muise,
I am going to ignore Charlie's Super Bowl halftime show humor.
No, on second thought, I won't. I thought MTV's Parus major
(http://www.birdguides.com/html/vidlib/species/Parus_major.htm)
revelation lived up to some of their often distasteful standards.
It was about as nasty as some of the beer that Charlie drinks :-)
It's going to take more than that minor revelation to peak my
interest. Surely some of you more mature readers remember
Blaze Starr on the Tonight Show? Or the Two O'Clock Club or
the Baltimore Orioles' (bird list here) World Series Championship
celebration on the "Block" in Baltimore."
Speaking of juveniles. Maybe many of the TN-Bird subscribers
don't know how to tell which of the Purple Finches they see at
their feeders are females. Charlie, you want to write
us a little exercise on here about how you do that? It should
be informative for those of us who don't have much confidence
in determining the sex of many of the Purple Finches at our feeders.
Let's go birding....
Wallace Coffey
