    Checked Wolf River trail in Germantown this morning; the Orange-crowned 
Warbler is still there, having survived last week's snow.
    At Shelby Farms, there were 3 Ross's Geese on Patriot Lake amongst the 
Canadas.  About 15 of the Canadas are apparently of one of the lesser races; 
they were obviously smaller than the other, regular resident Canadas, with 
shorter bills, and not much larger than the Ross's.
    In the Plough Park there was an immature Cooper's Hawk, and four singing 
Pine Warblers.  At the Senior Garden, the small (4) group of Vesper Sparrows 
remain; also I saw a House Wren there.
    On Pine Lake there was a male Greater Scaup; there was one here last 
winter.  This bird's large bill and nail, rounded head and cheeks are pretty 
obvious.  It flapped its wings, too, showing the extensive white.
    All in all, I'd say it was a good day for birding at Shelby Farms and 
vicinity.
