[tn-bird] Snow Days

Nashville got its first snowfalls of the season on Feb. 6th & 7th. And one of
my favorite things is to enjoy all the backyard birds the cold weather brings
with it. I spent a lot of time watching out the windows as the yard filled up
with fluffy white flakes, and feathered visitors arrived by the dozens. 15
Cardinals, 9 of them males, brightened up the wintry landscape. Robins came
in large flocks to drink from the heated birdbath, crowding a dozen at a time
on it, while others waited their turn. A few even took an icy bath! There
were White-throated Sparrows, lots of Tufted Titmice and Chickadees, a pair
of Carolina Wrens, a pair of Towhees, House Finches, Goldfinches, Blue Jays,
Starlings, Grackles, a couple of Yellow-rumped Warblers, a pair of
White-breasted Nuthatches, and even a Brown Creeper. And my favorite's- all
the woodpeckers- several Downy's, Red-bellied's, a Northern Flicker, a
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, and even a Pileated put in an appearance. And all I
had to do was sit inside by the warmth of the fireplace, and watch the show
outside :)
