I spent about 2.5 hours this morning in Hawkins County, visiting John Sevier
Fossil Plant (JSFP) and vicinity, including Dru Hanes Road, TVA Pond Road,
McKinney Chapel Road, Tunnell Hill Road, and a few other nearby roads. Birds
were plentiful as the morning sun warmed things up. A partial list includes:
Gadwall (7);
Pied-billed Grebe (JSFP);
Black-crowned Night-Heron (2, JSFP);
Bald Eagle (2--1 adult at JSFP, 1 immature about a mile and a half downstream);
Wilson's Snipe (Highway 347 approximately 0.5 mile west of the William L.
Jenkins Bridge);
Golden-crowned Kinglet;
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (2);
Hermit Thrush (JSFP);
Pine Warbler (JSFP);
Palm Warbler (2);
Swamp Sparrow (3, Tunnell Hill Road);
White-crowned Sparrow (3);
Dark-eyed Junco (2).
