Saturday, January 5 - Sandhill Cranes at Hiwassee  Refuge
 
NTOS will have a field trip this Saturday to enjoy the Sandhill Cranes  that 
winter each year at Hiwassee Refuge, just northeast of  Chattanooga.  We will 
spend the day in the area observing the  cranes, along with a great assortment 
of waterfowl (four species of goose  have been seen there this week), 
raptors, and a possibility of a  few Whooping Cranes.  Chattanooga TOS member 
and 
field trip  chairman Clyde Blum will guide us, and perhaps some other CTOS 
members will  join in.  We first plan to visit Standifer Gap Marsh and the  
Chickamauga Dam area for more waterfowl, Brown-headed Nuthatch, Peregrine  
Falcon, and 
anything else that has turned up on their recent Audubon Christmas  counts.  
We will be gone most of the day, so bring a lunch, your  scope, and a 
radio/cell phone if you have one.  Meet at the lower  parking lot of the 
Adventure 
Science Center (800 Fort Negley Blvd.  37203) at 7:00 AM to carpool.
