Subject: Status assessment of eastern subspecies of Bewick's Wren

Folks:
"The Arkansas Field Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
(Service) recently contracted with the University of Arkansas to conduct a
Status Assessment of the Eastern and Appalachian subspecies of Bewick's Wren
(Thryomanes bewickii bewickii and T. b. altus)."

"The comments we receive will aid us in our decision of whether to move forward
in the process of classifying these subspecies as candidates for protection
under the Endangered Species Act."
--------------
These are quoted sentences from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Suboffice in
Arkansas. If you are familiar with the eastern subspecies, and are interested
in more information, such as the 113-page document, e-mail me personally and I
can forward the entire message and document attachment. They want comments back
by April 19.

As you probably know, the eastern subspecies are essentially extirpated from
the Appalachians.
