Hello Birders,

I would like to let you know of Dee Thompson?s health and her current
situation. Dee is in the hospital here in Nashville. She has had severe GI
problems since Dec. 11th. On the Nashville Christmas Bird Count, Dec. 17th, she
got very sick with nausea and vomiting. She got worse all morning, and had to
go home before noon. Since then, I have not received any personal e-mails; I
have not seen any e-mails on either of the bird forums she is on, nor have I
spoken to her, even though I have called her home and left a couple of
messages. Finally, I decided to track her down. She does volunteer work at St.
Thomas Hospital, so I called there and found that she has been there since
Wednesday.

The way she came to be in the hospital is that on Wednesday, some people who
know her from her volunteer work sent her an e-mail and it bounced back, saying
her mailbox was full. They knew the great numbers it would take to have e-mail
bounce back so they decided to check on her. When they got to her home, she was
in such a bad condition they called an ambulance, and they likely saved her
life. She was in acute kidney failure, once she got settled into the hospital,
and the peritoneal dialysis was done, she had a mild heart attack.

I found her by checking the hospital on Sunday and talked to her that evening
on the phone in her hospital room. I then went there to take her some items she
needed. As I walked in the room she was in the beginning stages of what
appeared to me to be a TIA (mini-stroke). I did not get to visit with her;
after the nurses and doctors got through with her they were wheeling her out of
the room to get a CAT-scan. She has been assigned a room in special care (285)
but she cannot have phone calls in that part of the hospital.

I was able to visit her Tuesday night, and she did have a stroke, but they got
to it so soon, there was hardly any damage at all. She has a bit of weakness on
the right side, and that is about all. Her mind is clear, and she is her
talkative self again.

The couple who found her may settle her in an assisted living home when she
gets out of the hospital. (The wife of the couple runs an assisted living
facility.) This will hopefully be a temporary placement.

Dee?s dogs are with some people who live on a large farm, and have other dogs.
They are being spoiled.

Since she is not able to receive calls in the special care unit, Dee wanted me
to tell everyone not to call at present. She will get in touch, (call you, or
e-mail you) when she is able.

I have included her hospital address below.

Thanks,

Tarcila Fox, Goodlettsville TN
