[TN-Bird] Bristol CBC Results

The Bristol Christmas Bird Count (Sullivan Co., TN - Washington Co., VA), the
region's oldest
count first conducted in 1931, was held Sunday, 31 Dec 2006.
Twenty observers in 6 parties found 81 species which is near average (82.9) for
the past 10 years. The average for the previous 20 years is 77.8. The all-time
high
was 91 species in 2004.
The best birds:
Northern Saw-whet Owl at Steele Creek Park (Sullivan Co. TN) found by Joe
McGuiness
and Kim Stroud. It was a new species for the park. One previous Bristol count
record was
in 1999.
Tundra Swan 1 at Middlebrook Lake (Sullivan Co., TN). The species has been
reported
once before in 1992.
Six (6) Eared Grebe marked the eighth year the species has been found on the
count,
including its first appearance in 1996.
