Hi folks,

I birded about Blount County for a few hours this morning. Kyker
Bottoms has lots of water, and lots of ducks. I saw:

American Wigeon: 8
Gadwall: 5
Green-winged Teal: 15
Mallard: 100's
American Black Duck: 8
Northern Pintail: over 40. Most I've seen in east Tenn at once
Northern Shovellers: 10
Ring-necked Duck: 1
Bufflehead: 1
Hooded Merganser: 1

Still trying to find a Cackling in all the Canada Geese I see around
here.

As usual, there was one Loggerhead Shrike.

Sparrows included: Song, Field, Swamp, White-crowned, White-throated,
Savannah, Fox plus Eastern Towhee.

One of the White-crowned Sparrows was bald on top, presenting
something of an ID challenge. Unfortunately I couldn't get a
picture.

Highlights on Foothills Parkway included 2 Wild Turkey, a flock of
10-15 Red Crossbills, and at least 5 Common Ravens, which were eating
a skunk.

Charlie
