Standifer Gap Marsh, Hamilton Co., TN
Jan 12, 2005
New gate limits vehicle access to gravel road. The church plans to provide
wheelchair access soon. The gate is intended to stop dumping; birders remain
welcome.
New 3rd beaver dam beginning just north of culverts. 2nd built a few months
ago south of culverts. 1st and main dam that actually formed the marsh is west
of main body of water.
Rails: Virginia: 3+ Sora: 3+
Wilson's Snipe: 3
Phoebe: 1
Wrens: Carolina: 3+ House: 1 Marsh: 2 Winter: 1
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER: 1 Jacob Job saw one December 20, January 9, other
dates, and several times today with Dusty Wright and David Patterson. Same
spot all these dates, and presumably the same bird.
Grayish green back and crown, grayish yellow underneath, somewhat yellow
undertail coverts, dark eye line. In cattails and thin brush. Immediate and
noticable response to recorded song of O-C Warbler.
20-30 ft south of gravel road, 100 ft west of new gate. Fairly easy to find.
David Patterson
