Hi folks,
Yesterday we Tremonsters (folks who work at Great Smoky Mountains
Institute at Tremont) took a trip to see where the milk we serve to
kids comes from. We visited Maifield Dairy (McMinn County( and
Sweetwater Valley Farm (Monroe County). This was not a birding trip
and I carried no optics, but still saw a number of birds.
Highlights birdwise were a group of about 25 Cedar Waxwings in some
fruit trees (Prunus sp) at Mayfield, and 2 Eurasian Collared Doves at
the farm. This was my first sighting of collared doves in Tennessee
northeast of Hamilton County.
It was interesting seen all 3 dove/pigeons in one location. The
Eurasian Collared Doves seem to have a different approach and landing
when coming to utility wires than the Rock Pigeons do. They appear
to start their approach from further away, slowing down sooner and
coming in more level than the Rock Pigeons who coming and sort of
drop down.
Charlie
